Nifin’Akanga is a movement that fights for the legalization of abortion. We are pro-choice, meaning we believe that a woman has the right to choose whether or not to have an abortion, and regardless of her choice, her health should not be put in danger.

History

Madagascar is one of the six remaining African countries that criminalizes medical procedures for terminating pregnancy, whether for medical reasons or in cases of rape or incest. Indeed, the Malagasy Penal Code, in Article 317, condemns abortion practices regardless of the reason. In December 2017, Law No. 2017-043, Article 28, stipulated that «any natural person who practices medical termination of pregnancy for medical reasons in violation of the conditions provided by the law shall be punished by the penalties provided for in Penal Code Article 317.».
